shortcut
(1) For the shortcut to a website, see webloc.
(2) A pointer to a file, folder or application in Windows, Mac and Linux. Shortcuts provide an optional way to launch a program or access data, and right clicking an item generally provides the option to create a shortcut. Deleting a shortcut does not remove the original item.
Shortcuts are stored on the desktop, in folders, the Windows Start menu and Mac Dock. In the Mac, a shortcut is called an "alias," however, a Shortcuts application also comes with macOS. See Win Shortcuts.
